The Heather Garden, Fort Tryon Park

I have recently been drawn to parks, trees, flowers, and nature, so on my way to the Cloisters Museum this past Saturday, I decided to bring my camera and wonder through the Heather Garden in Fort Tryon Park. Was I ever surprised to see so many beautiful flowers and bushes in bloom this late in the year! My stroll turned into several hours of enjoying the environment, the scents, the views, and peace that comes with letting go of the distractions and wonders of contemporary society for a brief bit of getting back in touch with myself. I took these pictures to try to capture what I experienced, and while they cannot replace my memories, they are the best way to share them with others online.

I uploaded the garden pictures to Flickr, and will share a few of them here to brighten my blog. May they brighten your day as well.

  • @BarbaraNixon I never would have dreamed you meant one on tv! So many levels to such simple worlds. Any more evidence of a complex world?! #
  • Making it a point to get some fresh air. Last week I hardly left the office. #
  • @skydaddy What is “YMMV?” #
  • @Currie What is #etugfall08? #
  • Anybody heard anything about #NorthernVoice for 2009? Is it happening? Have sent some emails inquiring and offering to help, but nothing. #

PC World’s Most Recent “50 Tools . . .”

PC World, one of the practical technology sources I follow for ideas and reviews, had a very interesting list in their November 2008 issue, “50 Tools to Speed Up Your PC.” The article came just in time, as I reinstalled Windows Vista two weeks ago and this article mentioned some of the programs I used to use and forgot to reinstall, as well as a few new ones.

fast_snail_id86636_size350These are the ones mentioned in the article I just installed:

  • Secunia Personal Software Inspector (new for me)
  • WinPatrol
  • CCleaner
  • Duplicate Music Files (new for me)
  • Easy Duplicate File Finder (new for me)
  • Spybot Search and Destroy
  • Ad-Aware 2008

To give one example of how useful these programs can be, I found I have over 285 MB of duplicate files; all of which were a surprise to me. Perhaps this list (as well as the complete one on the website) may be useful for others as well.

  • @WeekendEdition Beginning Tweets with @ and then the person’s name, such as @WeekendEdition means you are publicly speaking to “them.” #
  • @BarbaraNixon What is the link to it? There are not cartoons in the NYTimes, so I do not see many of them too often any more. #
