PC World, one of the practical technology sources I follow for ideas and reviews, had a very interesting list in their November 2008 issue, “50 Tools to Speed Up Your PC.” The article came just in time, as I reinstalled Windows Vista two weeks ago and this article mentioned some of the programs I used to use and forgot to reinstall, as well as a few new ones.
These are the ones mentioned in the article I just installed:
- Secunia Personal Software Inspector (new for me)
- WinPatrol
- CCleaner
- Duplicate Music Files (new for me)
- Easy Duplicate File Finder (new for me)
- Spybot Search and Destroy
- Ad-Aware 2008
To give one example of how useful these programs can be, I found I have over 285 MB of duplicate files; all of which were a surprise to me. Perhaps this list (as well as the complete one on the website) may be useful for others as well.
