Anglicans and Schism Over Gays?

Posted by: Jeffrey    in Culture, GLBT, Politics, Power & Positionality

It seems the Anglican Church (Episcopal in the US) is considering the expulsion of rebel provinces that do not tow the party line on gays. According to the Times, there seems to be a lot of discussion about being gay and Anglican, so much so that the group is sounding more and more like the Catholic Church and its treatment of being gay.

I wonder what will happen when the conservative winds blow toward removing the ordination of women and divorce.

Communication 101 (aka Steve Jobs)

   Posted by: Jeffrey    in Functionality

One of my former teaching assistants (who is a natural at communication), David, pointed out to me a wonderful article in Business Week that discussed how Steve Jobs communicates in such a masterful way.

In a nutshell, the author indicated 5 things Jobs does that makes his presentations so effective:

  1. Build tension
  2. Stick to one theme per slide
  3. Add pizazz to your delivery
  4. Practice
  5. Be honest and show enthusiasm

Wow, this is the core of what I teach in my Business Communication class at NYU Stern School of Business

Granted, Steve Jobs also has the pleasure of often speaking to an audience that is already biased toward him and his message, but that may be as much a challenge as an audience that may not know every nuance of what is stated and what is meant.

Finally, Catching Up

   Posted by: Jeffrey    in Blogging

Now that I have finished my two conferences (AERC and AHRD) in two countries (Canada and England) in June, with a vacation that involved servicing the car, getting the driveway paved, and visiting relatives for their anniversary, today is my first day in my long-strive for normalcy in my schedule and my life. I have a lot of blog posts in Ecto to post from the previous weeks, as well as photos to upload to Flickr. I think I have to catch up with all that before I begin configuring my new IBM Thinkpad T61 that arrived after a long delay. Sweet.
